Tell me it will be ok…

…that is doesn’t really  matter that I have done nothing since Tuesday. It doesn’t really matter that I have pretty much been on my death bed since Friday. Wednesday I was tired. Thursday I felt icky. Friday I felt tired, icky, and yucky.

Saturday…I have no idea what happened. I took lots of drugs and don’t remember much else. I was sick. I slept all day; hot, cold, hot, cold, thirsty, drugs, hot, cold, drugs, thirsty…repeat. I have the flu. It is awful. I hope I can kick it and get back to normal. I have a terrible feeling that it is going to take a LONG time to get my strength back. I don’t have time for this but I just can’t train while sick:  1) that is dumb  and would only make recovery longer and 2) I would die.

Oh can I just tell you, to pour salt in my wound, it was in the 60’s yesterday and again today. Perfect weather for running and biking. But no…I have to be sick.

So how long has it taken you to bounce back to training after the flu?

Ok, this post has taken all my energy. Back to bed…

  1. You will be okay, your body needs to get better. Within a week when you start back to training, you'll be back at it. Get better, it sucks being sick!!!

  2. Looking forward to everyones answers. I started back to training the day before I started the fever with the flu. I'm feeling better now and will try a short run tomorrow. Curious to see how it goes.

Maybe I missed it...did you catch it in time to take the Tamiflu? Its helped me a lot, but my little one is taking longer to respond.
    Feel better soon!

  3. Awwww. I'm sorry! I honestly can't remember the last time I was sick. I made it through all of 2010 sick-free so it must have been around fall 2009. I'm stubborn and work out when I am sick anyways. Not smart. I hope you feel better soon! Sending positive / healing thoughts your way.

  5. I'm sorry, being sick is never any fun. But I say sleep it out, and start back slow.
I tend to use tylenol cold night time when I'm sick, puts me right to sleep for a good ten hours. Which does my body some good. ;p

  6. Oh man. So sorry you are sick. Yucky. Mr. T and T Junior both had the 24-hour flu a few weeks ago. Somehow, some way, I was spared.

  7. awww, i hope youre better soon!!! give yourself a week to get back to normal, you shouldnt have lost any cardio endurance in this short amount of time, but will need time to let your energy stores return to normal. dont stress!!! tamiflu is an antiviral drug for the flu, its Rx and you have to take it within a certain window after symptoms start for it to be effective.

  8. Sorry to hear you are sick! But give yourself some time and come back at it slowly once you start feeling better (and you will).

  9. First of all you need to feel better and then you can start with the training again. You don't do yourself a favor and starting to early. You have a good base and all will be fine. Just get well first! :)

  10. I hope you feel better soon... I have not been that sick in a while. I tend to still workout if I have the sniffles. You have been working out so I think you will bounce back fast. Just think about how strong your legs are going to be from the rest..

  11. Focus on getting better, worry about the training later. There is pleanty of time so don't stress yourself out about it, right now getting you healthy is the main focus.
I think I just have a cold, hit me Thursday night and hard Friday. Yesterday sucked, and today is better. Finally gettin my appetite back and not everything tastes horrible. If you have the flu, that REALLY sucks. But like I said there is pleanty of training time before either of the races and you are already in great shape so you won't have a hard time bouncing back. Let's just get you better first.

  15. I have to believe you will bounce back from this illness! Your body asked for a break--but it won't forget how to train!

    GET BETTER SOON!

  16. You will be OK.
That's what happened to me - felt funny the week before the sickness came, felt horrible entire last week and didn't run much and today, just better!

Rest well and get well soon!

  18. Don't worry! You will be fine. Better to happen now than any closer to the race. Tamiflu has to be taken within 48 hrs of getting sick. Keep it in mind in case someone else in the fam gets it.

  19. It will be OK.

Isn't that what you wanted me to say? :=)

I haven't had the flu since being a runner, but I know it wouldn't be any fun. I'm sure you'll bounce back gradually, but soon.

    I hate having setbacks.

  20. if you're sick you are sick! your body needs the rest. take it easy and you'll come back strong!

I got sick right before the Goofy Challenge in January (nearly 2 weeks) and was taking medication before the runs. not ideal but I was grateful I rested and took it easy weeks before the race.

  21. I'm so sorry you are sick. That stinks. I'm sure it will take a few days but you have a good rock star reserve that will pull you through :)

  25. it will be ok.
I had it. it was very bad: I passed out twice. that bad. it took a week to be better and 10 days to be 100%. it sucks but if you accept that you must rest it will be ok.
