Seven Miles of Pure...treadmill.

Ugh. Today I did my long run of 7 miles. On the treadmill. I do not run with a running stroller so the gym it was. I put my Little Buddy in the nursery for one hour and 4 minutes. It actually wasn't bad at all. The farthest I have ever done on a treadmill until today was 5 miles. I think the treadmill has some pros and cons.

Pros: I can control my speed and keep a very consistent pace. I can control the incline. I have a fan right in front of my face. I can completely zone out and not dodge annoying people who drive like idiots and fail to yield to pedestrians. I don't have to worry about stopping at streets. I have a nice little towel to wipe the sweat from my brow. I can check my email on my iPhone (not that i do or anything, really).

Cons: I have to stare at myself for an hour and analyze my gate. I can see just how fabulous my hair looks 5 miles in. I can see in said mirrors that the skin around my eyes bounce each time my foot strikes, proving that I am starting to look old(er). I get dizzy trying to watch TV and run at the same time. I can watch, in real time, the development of the WEIRDEST sweat pattern on my shirt...let's just say embarrassing, I had no idea my boobs sweat like that. What the heck?

But all in all it was not too bad and again I felt like I could run farther. I played it safe and ran slower than I could have.

mile 1 9:40
Mile 2 9:35
Mile 3 9:29
Mile 4 9:32
Mile 5 9:18
Mile 6 9:24
Mile 7 9:09
Fastest pace: 8:34

I foresee more treadmill runs in my future. With good music and a positive attitude I think it will work out. After all a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do...I have a marathon to train for! I just wonder how treadmill running compares to actual pavement pounding.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a rest day but since Tuesday will be a day of travel and airports and I don't feel too bad after my long run of 7 miles I may go ahead and run tomorrow.

Today I am grateful for:
A good run!
As my Little Buddy said tonight, "only two more sleeps then we get on an airplane!"
Bodyglide. It worked wonders on my poor tootsies today. Thanks Jamoosh for reminding me of this. :) I owe you a toe.
One month month closer to The Hubs return.

  1. I like greasin' up my little piggies, too. Totally helps. Great job on the 'mill. I haven't been beyond 3 and I don't know if I could do more. But, you are right: A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to train.

  2. Good job. I totally HATE the dreadmill, but sometimes it is necessary.

  3. Bodyglide on your feet? Didn't think of that. :) And a big "HOLLA!" to you for finishing a long run on a treadmill. Craziness!

  4. Funny! Those cons are classic!
Nice job on the 7 miler, too!

  5. Hmmm. Bodyglide on the feet? Will have to research this!

Great job on the treadmill run!

  6. Your con list for the mill is hilarious! I have weird sweat patterns too but thankfully only in the boobage area!

I lube up my tootsies with Bodyglide every run even though I don't get blisters anymore, I just like to be safe!

Yay for hubby coming home soon!

  7. Another pro for the treadmill is probably that it is easier on your knees, joints, etc. than running on the pavement. I am not sure I have run farther than 5 miles on the treadmill as well. But the weather has forced the issue for me YET...I will deal with that come summer when the humidity has set in!

  8. Wow 7 miles on the Dreadmill, you rock sister! I am thinking I will have to poud out some miles end of this month in CO.. I do not like staring at myself, but all of your observations are soooo FUNNY!!

  9. Congrats on 7 miles....I can barely stand to be on the dreadmill for one mile! Huge accomplishment! Hilarious commentary...its amazing where your mind will wander while on the dreadmill!

Bodyglide on your toes? Were you getting blisters? I have yet to use bodyglide...

  10. The most I have ever done is 6 and that was tough! Way to go! And Body Glide is Ah-Maz-Ing!

  11. Great job on the treadmill run! I'm not one of those who dread the mill...I prefer outside, but when I can't, inside it is, and I'm cool with it.
Glad the bodyglide is working...I'll have to buy me some of that :)

  12. Nice job getting in the 7 on the treadmill. Long runs are tough on the mill, I think.

  13. I prefer running outside but we haven't had so much snow this year for years and running outside isn't always possible. So I tried the treadmill on Friday and it was though to make it to 5K but I did it by playing with my speed. Today I did my interval on it and have to admit that it's okay to do an interval training on it. But for my normal runs I hope the weather gets better soon so I can keep on running outside.

    Great run Amanda!

  14. That's one nice treadmill run. Great job!

  15. I did 7 miles on my treadmill this weekend, all I can say is thank goodness for my television!

  16. You made the treadmill sound so much less boring! I have been missing out on loads of good visual entertainment!

  17. Woo! Seven on the mill. That's tough. Most I've done in 6. But I've got kiddies, you've gotta do what you gotta do.

You're pretty much awesome!!
