Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures....

When I was a kid I thought new shoes could make me run faster. And well, maybe they did, could, can and maybe I need new shoes right now....great. Anyway, I am trying to pull drag myself out of this semi slump. I'm working on it, I think I'm about 70% out of the hole I've been hanging out in...so to give me a small boost I did something drastic. I went from this:

Blonde (ish)....

To brown:

My hope is that it will make my run farther....

I took Sunday as a rest day since my knees felt like they were going to fall off and my hip had a hint of a twinge in it. I also took today off too but tomorrow I plan to hit the road again after work. The early morning runs just weren't working for me, it's too difficult when I have to get LB ready to catch the bus and head to work by 7. So I gave up on the 5 AM alarm and have now begun an evening run. It works well now that LB can ride his bike with no training wheels! He joins me on my neighborhood runs and it keeps me company.

Here we are last week about to head out for a neighborhood run/ride:

It sure does help that LB can join me on my runs, at least the shorter ones. Soon he'll be able to join me for my long runs! Oooh! And he can be like a little pack mule, carrying my water and gu and whatever else I may need!! Is that mean? Wrong?

I'm off to wrap up my Monday and move on to Tuesday....what does Tuesday have in store for you?

  1. Love it. You are gorgeous! And that is so cool that your little guy can ride while you run. My 6 year old daughter goes on some of my runs with me and she does quite well on her bike. I didn't think of making her carry water! :) Hope you keep coming out of that slump girl. Hope that hair color does the trick! :)

Is it bad that I'm a little jealous? ;)

  7. LOVE the hair!!
I gave up on my early morning runs too cause they just weren't happening and evening runs are still hard to fit in but I'm tryin to make it work. I have too.
My son has gone on a few runs with me while he rides his bike. The farthest being 11 miles. I had him carry the water bottle on his bike. We were in a paved trail so it was safe and fun for him cause he could ride further ahead and i could still see him.

  8. I think it is only fair that he carries your water and gu think of all the training runs and 5k's that you pushed him and yellow puppy, his cars, snacks, blankets and what ever other toys he had that day. Now it's time for him to return the favor! Plus he's a pretty helpful kid he wont mind :) Love the hair btw!

  14. My daughters are 7 and 9 and have been riding their bikes on our longish runs for two years. The farthest that they've gone is 13 miles and it makes life so much easier as both my husband and I run. A lot of people comment on my cute companian (I usually take one girl and my husband takes the other) but I always say that she is a pretty fancy and expensive water holder! I think it is important that our kids see us exercising and also get fresh air themselve. And face it, they spend a lot of time coasting at speed most of us run!

  15. LOVE the dark hair!! I, too, have been in a little bit of a running slump... and thinking about going to the "dark" side :) Maybe not quite as dark as yours... but my starting point is a little bit lighter...

Hope you get the boost you were looking for!!

And -- so jealous of running with LB -- my kids are 3 and 4... I can't WAIT until they can ride bikes and I can run!!! :)

  17. Your new color makes your pretty eyes POP! Hope those darn joints heal for you. i take glucosamine.

I think it's natural to get into to a slump. After Vegas, I am going to run for fun without thinking about training!

  18. I already told you, but you look awesome! And I think it's so cool that LB joins you. What a great example you are for him. I bet he will cherish the times he rode along with you. HUGS

  19. Nice fall color! I like to race big meets in a new swimsuit, even if it's just a cheap practice suit. I think whatever helps someone's mindset is a great idea.
