I'm trying my hand at more juicing and eating raw. It's hard....just figuring out what all these things, ingredients, are takes a degree, maybe an advanced degree.
For instance do you know what Spirulina is? Me either. That's what Google is for. How about Wheatgrass? I mean I grew up on a farm in Oklahoma. My dad was a wheat farmer. This is the same thing! I had no idea until I googled it! Ok how about this, "capsules of friendly bacteria"? Luckily I actually knew what this was and didn't have too much trouble finding it at the Apple Crate, my local Natural Market. I had to google Power Greens to figure out what that is....and it's expensive, just like the Omega Swirl stuff I bought.
I've got almost everything I need to begin juicing. I ordered a pallet of wheat grass that should be in on Monday. They had the powder but I'm trying to use more whole, natural foods, the real thing when I can. I also have to order the Spirulina and Power Greens. I've never done a detox but I want to see what it's like. Plus I'd like to feel like I am getting a fresh start when I really move into the Raw eating. I'm certainly learning as I go and I feel a little intimidated by the process. Any tips and pointers are more than welcome...
Probiotic, Omega 3, Wheat Grass powder sample, Tea...only a few necessary ingriedients |
So funny, I just saw the world "spirulina" for the first time earlier today was like, WTH is that?!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I know!! Right! Ridiculous!
DeleteI juice a lot and have been using spirulina for years. Love the stuff! One pointer, at least on the juicing: Both the spirulina and wheat grass can pull toxins out of your system, so you might feel tired at first. This is actually a good thing, in reverse (if that makes sense).
ReplyDeleteGood for you for going raw! Can't wait to read about your progress.
So what does Spirulina taste like? I used the small package of wheat grass powder and had to choke it down...ugh. I usually LOVE my green smoothies but this morning was rough!
DeleteThanks for the pointer about the toxins-I'll try to drink more water. I need to do that anyway.
I bought a juicer about a year ago and LOVE it! Recently I've been experimenting with Plant based protein powders for more sustained and cleaner energy for my body. I do love my steak so can;t go full vegan or RAW, but trying to swap out certain thngs so i can give my body a boost.Good Luck look forward to hearing how it goes!
ReplyDeleteSo what kind of juicer did you get?? That is the NEXT essential thing I need to get. I'm hoping to get one this weekend.
DeleteI remembered the name Spirulina from my Algal Biology course in college. "Taxonomize these things that all look like different color hairs or globs under a microscope." Not my favorite lab of all time...
ReplyDeleteEWE!! That does not help matters! =)
DeleteNever did a detox, let me know how it goes. Maybe one day I will try as well :)
ReplyDeleteI will certainly let you know how it goes!! If I can ever actually do it! It takes a lot of preparation and organizing, not sure I CAN be THAT organized! LOL!
DeleteI juiced for a year and lost a dramatic amount of weight then switched to a Vitamix to continue getting plant based whole foods. I have several races under my belt now including 2 half marathons and have signed up for a full in December. Good luck and check out Joe Cross's docu/movie, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead an inspirational film that documents his juicing journey to health.
