I’ve been thinking a lot about marathon training lately. This 70.3 is kind of making me wish I was training for a marathon. Soon. Soon I will be training for a November 26.2. I just have to survive this first.
…Saturday!!!
I love Saturdays. I like waking up and making a pot of coffee and banana pancakes with chocolate chips. I like going for my long run mid-morning or early afternoon. I know this isn’t going to work for much longer. Today it is supposed to be 85. That may be too hot for a 10 mile run, at least too hot to enjoy it and not die.
So yesterday The Hubs and I checked out the local trail. It is a 4 mile out and back trail. It’s nothing like the endless miles and miles of trail we had in WA but I guess it is better than nothing. While running I was thinking of going out and back and out and back and two miles out and two miles back just to get a 20 miler in. Ugh. Marathon training is going to be a challenge…but I am antsy to get another marathon under my belt! Listen to me…three weeks out from 70.3 and I am longing for 26.2. What is wrong with me??? Nothing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with me!!!
I was pleasantly surprised with the trail. I had heard only bad things about it. I heard it was ghetto, scary, isolated, unsafe…yadda yadda yadda…and it might be all those things unless I go during a reasonable time, like a Saturday morning, when there are many other like-minded peeps out. I probably wouldn’t go on a weekday morning (alone) but otherwise I felt safe. It was isolated but I, we, have to be smart out there running. Remember to tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back.
Here are a few pictures from the trail:
I’m obviously running really fast….
Oooo….pretty!
Me and The Hubs…
Hubs on a bridge…
Elbow Sweat…just for my PNW buddies.
Water? On a 4 mile trail?? I’ll take it! I mean, I’m not sure if I would actually drink any but it’s a great gesture…and if I ever do run out and back and out and back and out halfway and back again for 20 miles I might indulge. Who knows?
So there you have it! The trail. I just wish it was a little longer and had a little bit better of a wrap sheet. Maybe if I get some pepper spray….
What are you up to this fine Saturday morning???
Holy cats! What are you training for that's 70.3? You are amazing. I'm in the PNW, & there are lots of places to run, you're right. I'm a beginner, & it's been great to explore all of the trail options.
ReplyDeleteThat trail sounds great! I'm glad you found a place to run outside of your neighborhood!!
ReplyDeleteThe 70.3 is a Half Iron Man race!! Just lots of juggling with swim/bike/run! Fun but exhausting!! =) I miss the PNW EVERY SINGLE DAY.
ReplyDeleteI would take a 70.3 over a 26.2 any day...uck!
ReplyDeleteI get extreme elbow sweat too. It is attractive.
I love running on trails! that one looks great
ReplyDeleteThat trail looks lovely and like a nice place to run! Banana pancakes w/chocolate chips... yummy! :)
ReplyDeleteI always run in the afternoon/evening before Mike gets home, so I call him when I'm leaving, give him a guesstimate of how long I will be gone, and leave my route I plan on taking up on Dailymile on the laptop when I leave.
ReplyDeleteI haaaaaaaate carrying my phone, guess I will have to get used to that when I start doing longer solo runs.
3 weeks out from your 70.3...I sense a taper!! Good luck on your first Half Ironman. And yes the PNW does have some nice trails!
ReplyDeleteToo muddy for Tobacco Trail today, but I hit Lake Pine which is a beautiful two mile loop around a lake...nice and covered for the upcoming heat. I too wish we had longer trails around here.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the trail! Stay safe. Best of luck with the half iron. As for the 26.2, I think we crave what we know. Yours will be here soon enough!
ReplyDeleteJealous of your 85 degree weather, woke up to a rain/snow mixture here in cloudy VT.
ReplyDeleteWow! You're awesome. :-) Just saw your comment on my blog about the Jcrew *controversy*. Couldn't agree more. So many issues for us to really worry about, and it always blows my mind what people actually get up in arms over.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
That looks so pretty. Husband and I finally ventured over to Point Defiance Park... we've never been there before (shame since we've lived here for nearly 2 years!). It was packed with people and I'm thinking I might do some trail running there one day.
ReplyDeleteI ran 9 miles today!!!! I'm going to try to get in another 9-10 mile run before OKC, but I'm feeling a LOT more confident after today!! My breathing was awesome, but my legs were tired and my feet were sore. Will the tired legs get better as I get more miles under my belt?
ReplyDeleteGlad your trail turned out better than you thought!!
That trail looks great! Maybe for the really long runs you could drive somewhere for a longer trail? I agree that 5x that for a 20 miler would be a challenge.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun trail! Love the action shots! The west side of WA must be a runner's paradise.
ReplyDeleteI was longing for a 13.1 to train for after today's long run!!
Sorry the comment from "Michael" was me! I was accidentally logged into the husbands account!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great trail, even if it's on the short side.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo for more 26.2 coming up SOON!
So my husband and I are thinking about buying a new house, so we have one that is the front runner but I am still not sure. So I decided I would go and take a run in the neighborhood this morning to see if it is safe for a toddler to toddle in. While I was spying on my potential new neighbors I thought of you. You should see if there are more running friendly hoods in your area. I know nothing about NC so maybe you already thought of this and it didn't work.
ReplyDeleteHappy Running!
Why not just upgrade the 70.3 for a 140.6? That way you get both your 70.3 AND the 26.2.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures!! Miss you on the trails.. You are my HERO for attempting an Ironman...I love that I can read your adventures sorta makes me feel like
ReplyDeleteI did it.. HEHEHE JK..
