Why? Why….

…is this happening to me?

Remember a couple of weekends ago when I ran over that poor squirrel? No? Read about it HERE. Well I totally forgot to whine to you all tell you all about what happened yesterday at around mile 9 of my 12 mile run. There we were, me and Christina, running through Squirrel Alley (yep, THE same place I ran over that sad little squirrel) and minding our own business. Reminiscing about “The Squirrel Incident”. I heard some wings flapping and through some calculated deduction I figured the only place that flapping could be coming from was from a drain on the road, right in front of me. A drain like this:

How a stupid bird got in there I HAVE NO IDEA. Why the bird flapped furiously at THE moment I ran over the drain I HAVE NO IDEA. Why he came shooting out of that drain and up my leg and off into the trees I HAVE NO STINKING IDEA. I must be like the Crazy Animal Lady or something. I swear. THEN, not done yet people, THEN, today while riding 20 miles with my awesome T3 (Triple Threat) girls I was riding along with my mouth open talking and WHAM BAM down the goozle a stupid bug flew, and it hit the back of the throat hard. What the heck?! Is this normal? What is next? I hope I don’t get hit by a deer or something…

Today we (the T3 girls) met up to ride the Hilly Ranges route. We went out for 20 miles, a cut back due to our upcoming 1/2 marathon next weekend. We had a good ride and hit the hills hard!

I look huge next to my petite friends…and my legs are looking, um…quite cycle-ish??

And once again, J-Ninja showed up confused about biking or running…although maybe Kenyans ride bikes???? I dunno? I think she is doing it to spite us now…Or it is her small rebellion against biking-not giving in to it and holding firm to her love of the run…

It’s always a good time when we get together. It was sunny and warm, a perfect day for a ride!! And no one got hit by a car. One speedy SUV went so far around us he even drove completely off the other side of the road…in the ditch! It was awesome!

I am not sure what the rest of this week will look like as far as training.  Cutting back is hard…BUT I know my legs are in need of some sort of cut back. I think I will cut spin this week, down from 4 times to one. Can I do it? I’m kind of addicted… I’m thinking Monday will be swim only, Tuesday swim/spin, then the rest of the week run only and half marathon on Sunday! We will see if I can stick to that plan or not. Any one want to place bets?

So only an hour and a half(ish) left to enter my CEP Compression Socks giveaway (HERE)! Ends at 10 PM Eastern time.  I’m so excited to see who the winner will be!! Someone is going to be receiving a hug for each leg!! That is what it feels like when I put my socks on, like a serious hug! And I am not kidding you, after one week of religiously wearing my CEP socks (during runs and for recovery and sleeping in them) I staved off shin splints! I’m just saying, it worked for me!  I will announce the winner by 10 AM Eastern Time tomorrow!!! Could be sooner…but not later!

And finally, I worked on my garden this afternoon! I can’t wait to eat the fruits of my effort. Sounds so silly, but really, I can’t wait to pick strawberries and not pay and arm and a leg for them, or my sweet peppers!! Oh sweet day when I can walk outside and pick them and pile them onto my delicious sandwich!!  I’ve started them in the house and I will transplant them outside in the next month or so!!! Look forward to hearing all about it!! Do you garden? What’s your favorite home grown veggie or fruit? What can you tell me about it? Seriously, I do not have a green thumb. I very well may have already killed all of these poor, poor seeds….all advice and knowledge welcome!

  1. Sounds like you might want to check that pool for fish, or else one might come out of nowhere and surprise you. Maybe the fish will wedge itself into your swimsuit during a lap. Just something to think about during your next swim.

  2. Animals scare the crap out of me when I run... this weekend on trail, we came across a wolf/fox... not sure what, but it definitely made us run faster!

I love to garden too! Fresh produce rocks the tummy AND the pocketbook!

  4. Sounds like you need to run with a horn to warn the critters that you are coming.

I'm attempting a garden this year...didn't think to start them inside first. Hmmm. I'm the only one in my family with a black thumb...everyone else grows plants like its their job...me I kill them!

  9. Fancy Nancy---yes, I would love to run with you too!! And I must say I have been known to tell my friends to turn around and go get their butt after laughing it off at me for falling in an intersection, tripping over an invisible crack, or eating a bug.... =)

Liz-always looking at the bright side! I like that, so TRUE! I would have seriously DIED!

Trisha*n-I guess it's extra protein?!? Once time when I was in High School I was running the 400m to qualify for state. A bug flew in my eye and it hurt like the dickens...i still 5th and missed qualifying. I still blame that stupid bug.

DOUG-Great IDEA!!!! I will be searching Amazon today!!

  11. That was a super funny post!! I am sorry about your bad luck with the bird and the bug. I hate when bugs do that. They seem to fly up my nose sometimes and I hate it. Yuck!!! Enjoy your cutback week. Read a book or something!

  12. I've never done a squirrel or bird, but bugs I've certainly chomped down on - more than a few times. Just think of it as a protein pick-me-up.

  13. Have you seen Failure to Launch? OMG this reminds me of the guy who is constantly attacked by random animals! FREAKY but funny! :P

  15. Animals totaly freak me out when I'm running and biking. There are TONS of geese around here and they are rather large, scary birds when you are running alone and encounter a group of 50! Your situations are even more random though. Poor squirrel :(
