Who ever heard of such craziness?
Well apparently it happens every now and then! Tomorrow Ft. Bragg is celebrating the Army’s birthday by hosting a 10 mile run. This will be my first 10 mile race. I have always thought 10 miles would be a great race distance for me. Long enough but not too long….I’ll see how it goes.
Here is my pile for the morning!
Not pictured is my Garmin, iPod (which technically isn’t allowed, undecided about what I will do about that), and Body Glide.
With the heat and humidity the race start is a starling 6:30 AM. I think it should be below 80 degrees and lets hope the humidity is below 80% as well!
I am carrying my Nathan Handheld tomorrow (it is chilling in the fridge with Cytomax in it) since I have been experimenting with hydration and performance drinks like AMP and Cytomax. So far, unbelievably, I see a difference. I know, imagine that? The AMP (Amplified Endurance Booster) tastes like straight you-don’t-want-to-know. It is gross. Strangely though when I am mid workout and dying of thirst and heat it is bearable. It is the 30 min before exercise that kills me. But I am working with Cytomax as well and it tastes much better. After my 70.3 run bonk I am sold on performance drinks and their use and importance during extended periods of exercise. What took me so long? Duh….Seriously, I have no idea. I’m creeping out my GU Chomps box and seeing what else is out there! Do you regularly train with performance drinks? What do you like/dislike?
The AMP boasts some impressive results in clinical research:
- Clinically Shown to Improve Finish Time by Nearly 5 Minutes.
- Maximize Energy During High Intensity Exercise.
- Loaded with Electrolytes, Carbohydrates, BCAA & Hydrolystates to Rapidly Replenish Glycogen Stores.
You can read more HERE….but like I said it tastes nasty. Other than that, when consumed as directed so far I have seen a difference.
Anyone else doing an Amy Birthday Run tomorrow? I think they are being held all over.
Sorry for the short post but I’m off to bed!
I have a tri friend who swears by Perpetuum (Hammer Nutrition). Not sure exactly how it works, but could be a good option. http://www.hammernutrition.com/products/perpetuem.pp.html
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your first 10 mile race. Automatic PR! :) I'm running my first night race on Saturday... bad news is that it'll be hotter than a morning race, but humidity tends to be lower at night. My run this morning was in 90% humidity. Yuck!

ReplyDeleteRace on a Friday sounds interesting! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck! I did that race last year when visiting my in-laws! Its great!
ReplyDeleteI don't normaly train with performance drinks but have been looking into it.
ReplyDeleteImprove finish time by 5 min... hmm maybe it's worth the bad taste haha.
Good luck on the 10 miler! I ran one in Gig Harbor last year that went over the Narrows Bridge and loved it. Wish I could do it again this year.
I love 10 miles. I've only done one 10 mile race though. Good luck tomorrow!!
ReplyDeleteAnd keep us posted on the performance drinks. I am trying to figure out the best way to stay hydrated and not get sick when I run, so I'd love to hear how it works!
Rest up, good luck tomorrow!!
ReplyDeleteI really like nuun. Barefoot Angie Bee got me addicted to it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck tomorrow!
Good luck with your new PR tomorrow!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, 10 miles is the perfect distance!
ReplyDeleteI'm not big on sports drinks - I generally stick to water and salt pills. Glad you are experimenting to find out what works best for you/
ReplyDeleteGood luck at the 10-miler! It would definitely feel weird to me to race on a Friday.
I hope the humidity holds (held) off. I know in Houston 6:30 AM is usually the worst part of the day for humidity.
ReplyDeleteGood luck today! I am a fan of 10 mile races...same as you they are a good distance but not too far.
ReplyDeleteI really don't like sports drinks and am having a hard time with my stomach with many things. I am interested though in trying cytomax....hmmmm
Good luck, well I'm sure you are done by now. I need to try cytomax...
ReplyDeleteI hope it went well :) Can I ask why the ipod isn't allowed? That seems strange to me...
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I hope you had a great race!
ReplyDeleteHope the race went well! Can't wait to read all about it!!!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great race this morning!! Can't wait to hear about it!!
ReplyDeleteHope the 10-miler went great! I was going to do it, but couldn't figure an easy way to be at Bragg by 6 a.m. from Raleigh. Maybe next year!
ReplyDeleteMid week races are great! I just did one on Wednesday. I like Nuun for most of my training, but often need something with more calories - which is when I use Cytomax. Good luck today!
