I noticed something out of the ordinary when I was looking at my stats for the marathon. Normally my heart rate is very steady and looks like this: Pretty even and like a plateau…
Mercer Island half
12 mile training run
8 mile run with Tall Mom
So tell me, what is up with this!?!! Check out my heart rate from the marathon?
OKC Marathon
It is all over the place.
I can think of a couple things that could have caused this 1) I took 800 mg of Ibuprofen before the race to help my hip along and to ward off any pain 2) I took Claritin because of my sun allergy before the race too 3) dehydration 4) um, that’s all I got. So anyone have any insight as to heart rates and what causes them to be so crazy?
And what is next on my agenda? I am thinking Tacoma City Half Marathon this weekend!!! I’ll see how the weather goes and decide by Friday!! I’m thinking a new PR? Maybe!! 1:55 could be doable! Or maybe i should just do a nice and easy run. I’m feeling really really good. My feet are good. My hamstrings are a tiny bit tight (probably due to the flat course and absence of hills to give different muscles a chance to work). But the sorest part of my body is my shoulders! I tend to tense up my shoulders when I run and I tried to keep them loose but apparently I didn’t do a very good job.
And for those of you who asked about my sister i added to my Recap HERE. So check it out! She did amazing!!
Off to enjoy my last day in OKC before heading back home!!!
When I take allergy medicine it makes my heart faster.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh - you are radioactive. Well that just sucks.
ReplyDeleteKidding - you don't have another marathon to baseline it against (nor any thing else where Claritin or Ibuprofen was taken) so I would just chalk it up to marathon anxiety.
What software do you use to graph the data from your 405? I use a Garmin 305 with the latest update of whatever their provided software is and my graphs are super spikey. The lines are all over the place, not clean like yours. Maybe the 305 is just crap at that sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm a giant nerd, so of course I noticed this - take a look at the scales on the charts - the marathon scale is much narrower than the others. I bet if you put it on a scale similar to the others (about 90bpm to 170bpm), they'd look nearly the same. Because you're looking at a close-up view of the graph, you're seeing more of the little ups and downs that are hidden on a larger scale.
ReplyDeleteHope that helps calm your fears (and your heart rate)! :)
Hmmm...could be a combination of things.
ReplyDeleteDo the half! Good luck!!
I'm thinking Staci may be right?! It is crazy to see on "paper" though isn't it!
ReplyDeleteIt could be a simple thing like the battery in your chest strap needs to be changed. Mine needed to be changed a little while ago - it started doing things like showing me HR going from 150 to 88 while running UP a hill.
ReplyDeleteSometimes too when I am in a city with lots of wires and stuff my HR monitor either is all crazy or barely works. Although my vote is for the difference in scale.
ReplyDeletewas there a hot dude running in front of you? that is crazy....but maybe you were just anxious, or maybe the medicine IB profen always makes my heart race! and so do hot runner dudes :)
ReplyDeleteUm...yep, you are nuts. :)
ReplyDeletedid anyone make u angry? anyone cut you off at a water stop? cute guys? weird. After running a marathon my cousin noticed 2 huge spikes in his heart rate when he looked at the print out, then he remembered, a volunteer dumped ice water down his back and another runner cut him off, both things causing his heart rate to surge. Oh maybe from talking to people it changed?
ReplyDeleteThat heart rate is crazy!! I wonder why that is??! A sub 1:55 half is totally doable!!
ReplyDeleteYou were running behind a hottie???
